I remember watching the last season of BET’s hit gospel singing competition ‘Sunday’s Best’ and seeing the young Joshua Rogers. After seeing his performance of ‘Well Done’ (which was originally performed by Deitrick Haddon) I just knew he had no rivals on the team. Not the voice (though he has a great one) but he was just downright real. Contestants on competitions such as X Factor, Sunday’s Best and American Idols are usually advised to understudy a particular established and successful artist which is a great advice but this could also be the death to their uniqueness and creativity. Joshua Rogers’ got this vulnerable high pitch voice which is beautiful and funnily makes him stand out from other gospel male artist out there, and he does know how to utilize it so well. He showcased this on the show so well.

Well Done’ is a collection of performances from Sunday’s Best. His remarkable cover of Mary Mary’s ‘God in Me’ which is a must listen is also featured here. Other outstanding tracks include ‘Well Done’ and ‘Rain on Us’ on which Joshua takes us back to church.

You would love Joshua’s soft throw back of Isaac Carree’s ‘In the Middle’. It’s beautifully woven with a ‘thump thump’ clap intro as his background vocalists lazily mumbles the ‘in the middle of it’ echo throughout its refrain. This is one I really think should also be studio recorded nevertheless artist like Evin Amiri (of 21:03) already made cover versions.

For one I think church gospel ‘scream-your-lungs-off’ is quite a little box for a promising artist such as Joshua Rogers, but for what he serves on this album, he serves it hot.
