Track by track: Kierra Sheard – ‘Free’

Kierra Sheard is back with a new project entitled “Free” that hit the shelves today! In spite of the album being leaked and the date being push backed it seems like Kierra is getting a great response to “Free.” I know for a fact that fans and supporters have been asking her to do a live album for quite some time now, so for some they’re finally getting the album they’ve been wanting for her. I myself was elated when I find out she was having a live recording; we all know Kierra is a phenomenal vocalists, but to experience her live is AWESOME!! And I think they did a great job of capturing the live experience and conveying it with “Free.”

The album kicks off with the high-energy anthem “War,” usually it’s kinda hard for me to make it past this track because I’m always hitting repeat. “War” was a great song to start the album off with, and she gave a stellar vocal performance! Next up is the lead single “Mighty,” and I must say that the album version is waaay better than the version that went out to radio. I belive that the live version of “Mighty” would have done a lot better at radio; on the album version you can feel the live energy and almost create a vivid description of her singing it live, but hey maybe it’s just me. Now, on to track 4 and Kierra’s current single “You Are.” On this high-energy praise and worship track we get to see Kierra in a different light, aside from her usual urban contemporary. Kierra pulls out her churchy /Sunday morning singing chops on “You Are,” this is sure to be a favorite!

Now on to the WORSHIP experience with cuts like “Desire,” “Free,” and “Indescribable.” All I can say is be prepared for a worship experience. Kierra displays a lot of growth and maturity on these tracks in particular and she’s very transparent. My favorites would have to be the title track “Free” penned by Sheard, and her brother JDS and the remake of Chis Tomlin’s hit song “Indescribable.” Another standout track for me would have to be “Victory” ft.James Fortune. Just when I thought Kierra was simmering down she hits us with “Victory,” and it gets real good to me around 4:12, she pulls her churchy chops out again. Then, when I thought it couldn’t get any better she whips out the squall of life at 5:21 geeeez she siiiings…lol.

Welp, that’s it for the live portion of the album. I wasn’t too crazy about the studio tracks, but I do have my favorites which are “Lane” ft.JDS and “Since I Fo
und Christ” ft. Mali Music and JDS. That “Lane” is a BANGER, I love the lyrical content and the arrangement. “Lane” was penned bySteven Collins and JDS, so kudos to them for writing one of my new favorite urban bangers. Now, “Since I Found Christ” goes pretty hard too, but just not like “Lane”..lol.. But I do really like the chorus in “Since I Found Christ” it’s been stuck in my head since my hearing it.

Kierra’s latest effort, “Free” is definitely a good buy! I think it’s safe to say you won’t be disappointed. However, I still think “This Is Me” was her best album, but we’ll save that discussion for another time…LOL. “Free” is in stores and online everywhere music is sold, be sure to get your copy.
